prayers for seafarers

Apostleship of the Sea

Lord God, we depend on you for life itself. We depend on seafarers for many of our daily needs. Watch over them, keep them from danger, befriend them in loneliness and bring them safely home to those they love. Amen

Thanksgiving for seafarers

Almighty God, we give thanks for all those who work at sea. We acknowledge our need for the food and raw materials they transport. We recognise that they are sometimes in danger and their long absences often involve sacrifices in their family life. Help us to show our gratitude not only in our words, but also in our actions.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

The search for Our Patroness Our Lady Star of the Sea

The Patroness of the Apostleship of the sea and of countless seaside parishes is Our Lady Star of the Sea. We are searching for an artist's impression which will best appeal to seafarers.
Does your parish have a picture, stained glass window or mosaic whích may be used to help seafarers direct their prayers to the Lord of the Sea with the help of devotion to his Mother? If so please send a copy to us. Thanks.

SEA

ETERNAL Father, strong to save,
Whose arm doth bind the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep:
O hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.

O Saviour, whose almighty word
The winds and waves submissive heard,
Who walkedst on the foaming deep,
And calm amid its rage didst sleep:
O hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.

O sacred Spirit, who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
Who bad'st its angry tumult cease,
And gavest light and life and peace:
O hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.

O Trinity of love and power,
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go:
And ever let there rise to thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

TRADITIONAL CATHOLIC PRAYERS

       Salve Regina

Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To Thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve, to thee do we
send up our sighs of weeping and mourning in the valley of tears. Turn then

Most Gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us and after
this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary, Pray for us O mother of God,
that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.

The Memorare

Remember O most gracious, Virgin Mary
Who never was it known, that anyone who fled
to your protection, implored your help or
sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence I fly unto you ,
O Virgin of Virgins, My Mother. To you do I come,
before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy hear and answer me.
Amen

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds, hide me.
Permit me not to be separated from Thee.
From the malignant enemy, defend me.
In the hour of death, call me.
And bid me come to Thee.
That with Thy saints I may praise Thee,
Forever and ever.
Amen

My Gift

Lord, I freely yield all my freedom to you.
Take my memory, my intellect   and my entire will.
You have given me everything I am or have;
I give it all back to you to stand under your will alone.
Your love and your grace are enough for me.
I shall ask for nothing more.
